Fenway Health’s Young Leaders Council is pleased to host our first Transgender Awareness Week event on Tuesday evening, November 12. YLC’s “Being a Trans Ally” will be an intimate event for trans allies looking for more ways to support the trans people in their lives–at work, school or in social circles. Special guests Grace Stevens and Donnie Collins will share their stories and lead a Q&A discussion designed to take your awareness and support to the next level. Like all YLC events, this will be a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people and get involved in the Fenway community.
We’ll hear from Grace Stevens, a woman who transitioned while working at a major worldwide corporation. Already accomplished in the fields of engineering and mental health counseling, Grace has become a seasoned presenter on transgender issues and offers tailored cultural competency trainings for corporate, non-profit and government agencies, meaningfully contributing to welcoming environments across the New England area and beyond.
We’ll also hear from Donnie Collins, an Emerson College student whose fraternity brothers raised $20,000 when his health insurance declined covering surgery. With some of his frat brothers, he’ll discuss how together the group met these challenges and set a precedent for strong ally-ship. His widely publicized story is a fantastic example of ways trans allies can support the trans people in their lives.
Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm (EST)
Fenway Health Ansin Building, 9th floor
1340 Boylston Street
Boston, MA 02215
This event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served. Feel free to share on Facebook and Twitter, and bring your friends! Please RSVP through Eventbrite.
