Dr. Kevin L. Ard Honored By Massachusetts Medical Society With Its 2016 Men’s Health Award

Kevin L. Ard, M.D., Medical Director of the National LGBT Health Education Center at The Fenway Institute, is being honored by the Massachusetts Medical Society as the 2016 recipient of the Society’s Men’s Health Award, an honor recognizing an individual who has advanced the cause of men’s health. Dr. Ard will receive the award at the 14th Annual Massachusetts Medical Society Symposium on Men’s Health on June 16 at the Society’s headquarters in Waltham, Mass.

In nominating him for the award, his colleagues cited Dr. Ard’s work on health disparities affecting the LGBT communities, infectious diseases, and primary care for gay men, as well as his peer-reviewed scholarship focusing on infectious diseases, intimate partner violence, and LGBT issues.

Dr. Ard is also Associate Director of the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy Program in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital.

A summa cum laude graduate of Washington University with a bachelor’s degree, he received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine and a master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.  From 2011-2013, he completed a fellowship in infectious diseases at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals. He also served as a chief medical resident at Brigham and Women’s Hospital from 2013-2014.  Dr. Ard was appointed an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School in 2013.

Dr. Ard is a published author and presenter of many topics related to men’s health, LGBT health, and HIV, and he teaches medical students, residents, and fellows at Brigham and Women’s and Massachusetts General Hospitals.

Dr. Ard was previously honored with the Edward H. Kass Award for Clinical Excellence by the Massachusetts Infectious Disease Society and the Soma Weiss Award for Teaching by a Fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, both in 2013, and he was inducted into the national medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha in 2007.  He resides in Winchester.
