Trump Administration Rolls Back Guidance Protecting Transgender Students, Threatening Their Health and Well-Being

On February 22, 2017 the U.S. Department of Education and Department of Justice jointly issued a letter to withdraw previous guidance issued by the Obama Administration requiring schools to treat transgender students in accordance with their gender identity. The guidance issued in May 2016 by the Obama Administration came in response to a growing number of states across the country proposing and passing anti-transgender legislation, much of which specifically targeted transgender youth by prohibiting them from using school restrooms and locker rooms in accordance with their gender identity. Boston City Council Hears Testimony About Needs of LGBTQ Youth of Color

In response to a report by The Fenway Institute released late last year finding that more than 15 percent of Boston’s LGBTQ youth of color had traded sex for money, food, shelter, or other resources, the Boston City Council’s Committee On Healthy Women, Families & Communities held a hearing September 27 on the needs of the city’s LGBTQ youth of color. Called by District 8 Councilor Josh Zakim, the hearing drew approximately 35 attendees and featured testimony from youth, adults who work with youth, social scientists, academic experts, and officials from Boston Public Schools and the Boston Public Health Commission.

Fenway: South End Launches Family Medicine – Now Seeing Patients of All Ages!

Fenway Health is proud to announce the arrival of Family Medicine at its Fenway: South End location to welcome patients of all ages to the site, including children, as it expands upon existing Family services offered at main 1340 Boylston location. CDC finds that high school age gay and bisexual males have much higher rates of substance use than their heterosexual male peers

Today, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released data showing that high school age males in the U.S. who are gay or bisexual report much higher rates of substance use than heterosexual males. Findings from the report titled, “Sexual Identity, Sex of Sexual Contacts, and Health-Related Behaviors Among Students in Grades 9-12 – United States and Selected Sites, 2015,” highlights results from the 2015 Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) and details the risk behavior disparities of sexual minority youth, as compared with their heterosexual peers.
