Fenway Health Denounces As “Unethical And Unhealthy” Tennessee Bill Permitting Health Care Providers To Decline To Treat LGBT Patients

Fenway Health denounces HB 1840, a Tennessee law signed Wednesday, April 27 by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, which allows therapists and counselors to refuse mental health treatment to patients based on the counselor’s “sincerely held principles.” Under this law, mental health professionals could discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) patients without any legal repercussions. “This new law directly contradicts the American Counseling Association’s code of ethics, which states that mental health professionals cannot refuse treatment based on ‘personally held values, attitudes, beliefs and behaviors,’” said Stephen Boswell, MD, FACP, President and CEO, Fenway Health, and Professor at Harvard

This year, Fenway was upgraded to Silver level, reflecting its continued dedication to environmentally-friendly practices. Major Construction Underway Next To Ansin Building

Fenway Health is asking Ansin Building patients, visitors, and staff to be aware that ongoing construction work on a new development slated for 1350 Boylston Street may pose some parking challenges in the neighborhood. Boston-based developer Skanska USA Commercial Development and Prudential Real Estate Investors have begun construction on a planned 17-story, 183,000-square-foot residential tower next to our 1340 Boylston Street offices, in the lot formerly occupied by Burger King. With major work slated for the surrounding sidewalks, some street parking may be unavailable near the Ansin Building.
